Resurgent Medvedev Secures Maiden Championship in Nearly 30 Months
Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hardcourt
A comeback Medvedev claimed his initial title for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.
The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a torrid season, managing just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.
His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - led to him falling of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.
Presently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.
This represents the player's initial trophy after the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt after March of 2023.
Victory also signifies Medvedev has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one different competitions.
"For the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters together, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Medvedev.
"This championship is in honour of my child my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.
Medvedev's retrieving approach and regular reactions on the tennis court had prompted commentators to doubt if his skill to perform at the elite level was concluded.
But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to come to the net and compete positively, reinforced by an improved serve.
He came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five games to go ahead.
The competitors exchanged breaks in the second set before Moutet, striving for his maiden ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to force a decider.
He defended 4 early-game chances in a close final set before Medvedev broke to that score to close out the victory.
Fittingly, he secured the title with a point at the net, with Moutet incapable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
